Davie Jane Saxton Gilmour is a graduate of East Pennsboro Area High School. With a mother who was an elementary teacher for the school district and a father who was a member of the Board of School Directors for East Pennsboro, she understood at an early age the value and importance of education. Davie Jane earned A.S. and B.S. degrees in Dental Hygiene from West Liberty State College and M. S. and Ph.D. degrees in Health Education from Pennsylvania State University. Prior to beginning her career in education, she was a dental hygienist for a number of Harrisburg Area dentists.
Dr. Gilmour joined the faculty of Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport in 1977 as an instructor and curriculum developer in the Dental Hygiene program. She was promoted to assistant professor in 1983 and accepted her first administrative assignment as Internal Coordinator of the Dental Hygiene Program. She moved up the ranks at Penn Tech, and in 1993, became the College’s highest ranking academic officer, Vice President of Academic Affairs. During her tenure, she facilitated the development of the College’s first Bachelor’s degree program, oversaw a number of construction and renovation projects, and served as the chief negotiator bringing a new collective bargaining agreement to the faculty.
In 1998, The Board of Directors Named Dr. Gilmour President of Pennsylvania College of Technology. Under her leadership, the College has become a strong force in higher education in Pennsylvania, offering certificate, associate, and baccalaureate degree programs, with students from around the world enjoying the benefits of state-of-the-art programs in traditional and emerging technologies.
In 2008, Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour was voted Chairman-Elect of the Little League International Board of Directors after serving on the Board since 2006. She is the first female to hold this position, and according to the previous Board Director, Dr. Gilmour has provided a profound voice in crafting the future direction of the future of the Little League program. Dr. Gilmour has returned to her home school district to address our young ladies in the 8th Grade Girls GEMS program and has shared her inspirational story with our students.
