East Pennsboro Area School District believes that all students have the capacity to learn when given the right conditions; thus, the school district must vary class size, staffing, instructional strategies, and placement to accommodate individual differences.
One way EPASD provides the right conditions is through the Special Education Department. Within this department, we offer a wide range of programs and services to meet all student's unique learning needs.
Learning Support - We provide learning support services in all buildings. Levels of intervention include full-time, supplemental and itinerant support services. The level of service provided to each student is determined by the student's individual needs and is outlined in their Individualized Educational Program (IEP).
For students to receive special education services, a multiple disciplinary evaluation (MDE) must be completed. This evaluation will include an educational psychological evaluation. (For more information on East Pennsboro's psychological services please see our Psychology Services Web-page) A parent can request an evaluation for their child to determine if they qualify for special education services. More information can be obtained by contacting The Supervisor of Special Education at (717)732-3601 or your child's guidance counselor.
In Pennsylvania, students qualify for special education services if they have one of the following physical or mental disabilities and need specially designed instruction:
* Autism * Deafness
* Deaf-blindness * Emotional Disturbance
* Hearing Impairment * Intellectual Impairment
* Multi-disabilities * Neurological Impairment
* Orthopedic Impairment * Other Health Impairment
